Dear Patients,
With all the excitement of Halloween we want to make sure you are staying healthy and safe!
We want to share with you some healthier candy options for you and your family. Research has shown that the average child consumes three cups of sugar on Halloween. That’s about 220 sugar packets. We want our children to have fun but we want to make sure there is the correct balance. Some healthier options for Halloween treats are below:
-
Kind snack bars
-
GoMacro Kids Bars
-
That’s It Fruit bars
-
Utz Halloween Pretzel Treats
Some other things to remember on Halloween are:
Dress in layers: As the temperatures start to drop at night be sure that your children have layers under their costumes. This way you don’t have to ruin their costumes by having them wear a jacket. If you are out walking with them, be sure to also dress warm.
Wear reflective gear: As you know the sun is setting earlier and earlier. We encourage you to trick-or-treat in groups and use reflective tape or material on costumes. You can also carry glow sticks or flashlights. Also be careful of your child’s masks. Some masks can obscure your child’s vision. Instead try using a multicolored makeup.
Wear proper footwear: What seems like a short walk around the neighborhood with your child may turn into hours of being on your feet. Make sure you and your child wear tennis shoes or a pair of supportive shoes. Make sure you wear socks! Socks will help not only keep your feet warm but also help with blisters. If it is raining be sure to spray your shoes with a waterproof spray or wear a pair of waterproof shoes.
We hope you have a healthier and safe Halloween!
