A Note From The Doctor:

Happy National Nutrition Month!

At Somerset Hills Chiropractic, we talk a lot about alignment — but alignment isn’t just structural. It’s cellular. The food you eat directly influences inflammation, muscle recovery, nervous system function, and even how well your adjustments hold.

Your spine doesn’t heal in isolation. It heals in the environment you create. Your nervous system controls every organ, muscle, and tissue in your body. While chiropractic adjustments remove interference and restore motion, nutrition provides the raw materials your body needs to repair, rebuild, and perform at its highest level.

Certain nutrients play a critical role in that healing process. Omega-3 fatty acids help reduce inflammation and support joint health. Magnesium supports muscle relaxation and improves your ability to handle stress. Protein is essential for tissue repair and recovery after injury or strain. B vitamins are critical for nerve health and energy production. When these nutrients are consistently present in your diet, your body is better equipped to respond to care and maintain results.

Many of the conditions we see in the office — neck pain, low back pain, headaches, and joint stiffness — are worsened by chronic inflammation. Inflammation is often driven by daily habits such as consuming highly processed foods, excess sugar, seed oils and fried foods, chronic stress, and poor sleep. Over time, these stressors create an internal environment that makes healing more difficult.

On the other hand, prioritizing whole, nutrient-dense foods can dramatically shift that environment. Leafy greens, berries, wild-caught fish, grass-fed meats, nuts, seeds, and adequate hydration all support a healthier inflammatory response. The goal isn’t perfection — it’s progress. Small shifts, practiced consistently, create meaningful long-term changes.

That’s where the 80/20 rule comes in. Aim for whole, nourishing foods about 80% of the time, while allowing flexibility for real life the other 20%. Sustainable habits always outperform extreme, short-term changes.

True wellness is never just one thing. It’s the combination of proper spinal alignment, intentional movement, anti-inflammatory nutrition, and stress management. When these elements work together, your body performs at a higher level — whether that means playing with your kids, training hard, focusing at work, or simply waking up without pain. Let us know next time you’re in the office how we can best help you in your nutritional journey.
