A Note From The Doctor:

Fall Into Better Movement

October in the Somerset Hills is hard to beat: crisp mornings, changing leaves, and fields full of fall sports. It’s also the month we see more stiff backs from yard work, tight joints as the weather cools, and athletes deep into their seasons. Here’s how to keep moving well all month long.

Rake Smarter, Not Harder

Raking and leaf blowing are repetitive, twisting, one-sided tasks, which is exactly the combination that aggravates the low back. A few small changes make a big difference:

  • Switch sides often. Alternate your lead hand every few minutes so one side isn’t doing all the work.
  • Move your feet, not your spine. Step and pivot instead of twisting at the waist.
  • Lift with your legs. Keep bags close to your body and bend at the hips and knees.
  • Take breaks. Stand tall and stretch every 15 to 20 minutes.

Cooler Weather, Stiffer Joints

Many patients notice they feel tighter when temperatures drop. Colder air and less time outdoors often mean we move less, and joints and muscles respond by stiffening up. Staying active, warming up before activity, and keeping up with regular adjustments help keep your spine and joints moving freely through the season change.

Fall Sports Are in Full Swing

Mid-season is when small aches start turning into bigger problems. Whether your athlete plays soccer, football, field hockey, or cross country, pay attention to limping, favoring one side, or pain that lingers after practice. Catching these early usually means a quicker fix and less time on the sidelines. We work with athletes of all ages and are happy to check in on your young athlete at any visit.

Community Partner Spotlight

Somerset Hills Chiropractic × D1 Training Bridgewater

Train strong. Move well. Recover right.

We’re excited to announce a new partnership with D1 Training Bridgewater, a performance-focused strength and conditioning gym right in our backyard. Together, we’re connecting great training with great care, so our patients and their members can get stronger and stay healthy doing it.

Who Is D1 Training?

D1 Training offers coach-led strength and conditioning programs for youth athletes and adults, modeled on the way Division I athletes train. Whether you’re a high school athlete chasing a starting spot or an adult who wants to feel strong and capable again, their coaches build structured programs with a real focus on form and consistency.

Why This Partnership Makes Sense

Training builds strength. Chiropractic care helps your body move and recover so you can keep building it. When your spine and joints are moving well, you can train with better form, get more out of each session, and spend less time sidelined by nagging aches. Working together means:

  • Better communication. Our office and D1’s coaches can work together on athletes and members who need both training and care.
  • Smarter return to training. If you’re working through an injury, we help you get back in the gym safely.
  • A whole-body approach. Strength, mobility, and recovery all working toward the same goal.
